Match day 2 is complete with tasty results to digest on a Monday
Division 1 saw two high scoring one sided games as both Western 3rd XI and Hillhead 3rd put 8 and 9 past their respective opponents. The game was closer at Eastwood High School where Giffnock defeated Helensburgh 4-2. The Giffnock goalkeeper was in fine form, making a number of saves including a penalty, that helped give Giffnock the win. It was also a close affair between GHK and Rottenrow, with Ross McGuinness bagging a couple goals to give the ‘row the 3 points. Elsewhere, Clydesdale 3rd XI defeated Uddingston 3rd XI 6-1.
The best viewing in division 2 was to be seen at Glasgow Green, especially for the neutrals. Six goals were shared evenly between Rottenrow 2nd XI and Western 4th XI, with a double from Dara Brennan helping Rottenrow gain a point. The six goals scored in Uddingston were not shared as Uddingston 4th XI put six past Helensburgh 2nd XI. There was also six goals scored between Kelburne 3rd XI and Clydesdale 4th XI, with it finishing 4-2.
Four goals for Greenock 2nd XI saw them run out comfortable winners against Uddingston 5th XI in division 3. However, you’d be forgiven for thinking scoring four home goals would be enough for Ayr 2nd XI to take all three points in their first game of the season, but Strathclyde University 2nd XI had other ideas, putting five past the Ayr goalkeeper in a topsy-turvy game.
In division 4, two young XI’s played some excellent hockey at Hermitage Academy, as Dumfries 2nd XI defeated Helensburgh 3rd XI. A debut goal for Nathan Bean was undoubtedly a moment to saviour. Elsewhere, Hillhead 7th XI beat Clydesdale 5th XI 1-0, whilst Western 5th XI got two past Giffnock 2nd XI.
