The results are in!

Division 1 saw 34 goals go in as the season got underway on Saturday. A new look Rottenrow side managed an impressive 4-1 victory over reigning champions Uddingston 3rd XI at the National Hockey Centre. The home side went 1 up in the first half, before a further 3 goals confirmed victory in the second half. An exciting result which produced 4 different goal scorers for the winners. Elsewhere, Western 3rd XI had a winning trip down to Dumfries, smashing 7 goals past the home side, whilst 4 goals from Giffnocks Andrew Barnett saw them make a winning return to division 1 hockey beating Clydesdale 3rd XI 5-3.

In division 2, only 2 games were completed. Kelburne 3rd XI won their opening fixture 2-1, away at Auchenhowie – the beginnings of the rebuild for last seasons 1st division side. However, the day’s most impressive win has to go to Hillhead 5th XI who were clinical in front of goal against Helensburgh 2nd XI. The first half was a tight affair with only a couple of goals separating the sides, but tiredness seemed to creep in to the ‘burgh side as Hillhead piled the pressure on and ran out 10-1 winners.

 

Hillhead were involved in another cracking game in division 3 as the 6th XI drew 4-4 with Uddingston 5th XI. The only other game in the division saw Strathclyde University 2nd XI’s Connor Grear get the only goal of the game against Greenock 2nd XI. The narrow win see’s Strathclyde move to the top of division 3.

 

Western 5th XI hosted Clydesdale 5th XI in division 4, with Western taking the 3 points after a 2-1 win, whilst Giffnock 2nd XI had two penalties saved from Helensburgh 3rd XI goalkeeper Benji Jones, but they still proved too much for the Helensburgh side, winning 5-2.
