The West District season is beginning to take shape, and Saturday’s fixtures offer plenty of opportunities to shake up the early league tables. Unbeaten starts are on the line in Division 1, promotion hopefuls meet in Division 2, and Division 3 has a fascinating clash between two sides looking to establish themselves among the frontrunners.

With several teams having games in hand, there is still plenty of room for movement — but another three points could make all the difference.

Division 1: Can Anyone Catch Clydesdale?

Clydesdale 3rd XI have made the perfect start, winning all four of their opening matches and conceding just twice. They face Helensburgh at Titwood at 12:00, with the visitors still searching for their first points of the season after four defeats. Clydesdale will be strong favourites, but Helensburgh will be desperate to turn their fortunes around.

The champions, Western 3rd XI, are also in action, welcoming Hillhead 5th XI to Auchenhowie for an 11:00 pushback. Western sit third with games in hand on the sides above them, and another win would keep the pressure firmly on the leaders. Hillhead have shown they can be competitive, though, and will hope to frustrate the reigning champions.

At Eastwood High School, Giffnock host Rottenrow at 11:20. Giffnock sit level on points with Clydesdale at the summit, albeit having played an extra match, and will be keen to return to winning ways after their recent defeat to Western. Rottenrow, meanwhile, need points to climb away from the lower reaches of the table.

The other fixtures see Uddingston 3rd XI host Greenock at 12:00, with Greenock looking to maintain their impressive start, while Clydesdale 4th XI take on Kelburne 2nd XI in a fixture that could prove important for both sides’ ambitions.

Division 2: A Promotion Battle Taking Shape

Division 2 remains finely poised, with GHK leading the way on ten points. They face a difficult away trip to Rottenrow 3rd XI, who will be looking to make home advantage count and climb the table. GHK have made an impressive start, but the challenge now is to maintain that consistency.

Clydesdale 5th XI travel to Doonside to face Ayr, with the sides at opposite ends of the early standings. Clydesdale have conceded just once in four matches and remain unbeaten, although two draws have prevented them from taking top spot. Ayr, still without a point, desperately need a result to kick-start their campaign.

Elsewhere, Rottenrow 2nd XI welcome Dumfries to the National Hockey Centre. Rottenrow have drawn three of their four matches so far, while Dumfries have games in hand and will see this as an opportunity to move into the promotion conversation.

The remaining fixtures see Glasgow University 3rd XI host Uddingston 4th XI at Garscube, while Kelburne 3rd XI welcome Western 4th XI to the ON-X. Kelburne sit second in the table and will be keen to keep the pressure on GHK, while Western will look to close the gap on the leading sides.

Division 3: Leaders Face Testing Fixtures

Kelburne 4th XI have moved to the top of Division 3 after a convincing 6-1 win over Hillhead 7th XI last time out. They now face Strathclyde University 2nd XI at the ON-X. The students made an impressive start to their campaign with a 6-1 win of their own over Clydesdale 6th XI, setting up an intriguing contest between two sides with promotion ambitions.

Anchor, currently second, also face a stern test as they take on Hillhead 8th XI at the ON-X. Anchor have shown their attacking threat with a 7-1 victory over Helensburgh 2nd XI, but Hillhead 8th XI have also impressed this season and will be determined to close the gap on the leading sides.

At Titwood, Clydesdale 6th XI host Helensburgh 2nd XI for a 10:30 pushback. Clydesdale will be looking to recover from their defeat to Strathclyde, while Helensburgh need a response after a difficult run of results.

The final fixture sees Giffnock 2nd XI welcome Hillhead 7th XI to Eastwood High School for a 15:00 pushback. Both teams will be looking to collect valuable points and build some momentum as the season progresses.

With the league tables beginning to take shape, there is plenty to play for across all three divisions. Can Clydesdale 3rd XI maintain their perfect record? Will GHK hold onto top spot in Division 2? And can Kelburne 4th XI continue their climb in Division 3?

Saturday promises another important chapter in the West District season.
