We take a break from league action this week, with the cup competition starting. The George Black Trophy starts for many teams this coming weekend.
The tie of the round must be the all division one clash between holder’s Western 3rd XI and contenders Rottenrow. The two sides met last weekend in the league, with Western coming out on top. However, a new week and a different proposition on offer will give a fresh look to this match. Rottenrow will be hoping to do far better than last week. Another match that copies last week, albeit postponed because of the weather, is Helensburgh vs. Glasgow University 3rd XI. The two sides met last season in the District Plate, with Helensburgh winning 6-4. The Uni’ side have played only one match this season but struggled against Hillhead, so will be hoping for different fortunes in the cup competition. Some of the other exciting matches see division two leaders GHK host Strathclyde University 2nd XI. GHK are playing well just now but you never quite know what you get with a Strathclyde side, so this could be one to watch. Elsewhere, Clydesdale take on Hillhead, with the 3rd XI facing Hillhead’s 5th XI, and Clydesdale 4th XI up against Hillhead 6th XI. Kelburne 3rd XI travel away to Hillhead 4th XI, in another all division one clash; and Uddingston 3rd XI host Ayr. Giffnock will await the preliminary round result between Western 4th XI and Uddingston 4th XI.
