The first weekend of the new season is already over. Let’s take a look at the results.
Division one saw eight out of ten teams in action, with Rottenrow putting the early stamp on the season. They put eight past Kelburne 3rd XI with only one in reply. Tom Edwards getting the pick of the goals. Dan Ebbatson scored early for Hillhead 5th XI away at Hermitage Academy, but an Adam Carmichael double saw Helensburgh fight back for a tight victory. Western 3rd XI started their defence with a clean sheet, putting five past newly promoted Clydesdale 4th XI. The other match saw the points shared between Giffnock and Clydesdale 3rd XI.
The biggest win in division two saw GHK win an impressive 7-1 away in Ayr on Saturday. John Giblin got a double to help GHK on their way. A tight match in Uddingston saw the points shared as their 4th XI drew 3-3 against Rottenrow 2nd XI. Kelburne 4th XI and Dumfries played a close match on Sunday, with the Dumfries side taking home the three points with a 3-2 victory. Elsewhere, Uddingston 3rd XI defeated Western 4th XI 4-0 and Hillhead 6th XI won their opening match against Greenock 2nd XI 3-1.
It was a thirteen goal thriller at Hermitage Academy with Helensburgh 2nd XI scoring eight against Dumfries 2nd XI, who managed give themselves. James Pettit secured the win for Helensburgh with a hat-trick, but it was joy for both sides with Callum Court of Helensburgh and Jack Callander of Dumfries getting their first goals for their clubs. Hillhead 9th XI’s first competative match was a close affair, with Uddingsting 5th XI just edging the victory 3-2, whilst Hillhead 7th XI ran out 4-0 winners over Giffnock 2nd XI.
