It was a fiesty weekend in the West District as we enter February.

It was a goal fest in division one, as thirty-eight goals went in across the five games. It was delight at Auchenhowie as Western 5th XI put five past Uddingston 3rd XI to win their first game of the season, at the tenth time of asking. It is certainly an uphill task for Western if they want to avoid relegation, but it could have started on Saturday. There was goals galore at both Windyedge and Eastwood High School, as Rottenrow defeated Hillhead 3rd XI 6-4 and Western 3rd XI overcame Giffnock 7-3. Those two wins keep the pressure on Clydesdale 3rd XI, who also managed a 4-2 victory. The other match saw a 1-1 draw between Helensburgh and Kelburne 3rd XI.

It was all change at the top of division two on Saturday as Clydesdale 4th XI lost for only the second time this season. They succumbed to a 6-2 defeat to Hillhead 5B, who have the goalscoring prowess of Graeme Etheridge to thank for his contribution. This paved the way for GHK to move top after they defeated Hillhead 5A 4-1. Glasgow University 3rd XI are also in good form and that continued on Saturday as they overcame a tricky Dumfries team with a 6-2 win. That moved them up into second place. The other match saw Uddingston 4th XI steer further away from the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Ayr.

Only two games made it to the final whistle in division three. An important win for Helensburgh 2nd XI saw a Dayle Hartopp hat-trick help defeat Western 5th XI. Western brought the game back to 2-2 before Helensburgh pushed on to get the win. The other match saw Neil Macey hit a double that helped Hillhead 6th XI beat Uddingston 5th XI.

It was a tight game in Dumfries, in division four, on Saturday. Keith Campbell was the sole goal scorer for Giffnock, as they defeated Dumfries 2nd XI 1-0. The other Dumfries side fared better, but it was another close game. Hillhead 8th XI’s Hamish Meikle got a double for the Glasgow side, but it wasn’t enough as Dumfries 3rd XI managed to win 3-2. The other match saw Mark Findlay and Eddy Hall both score two goals for Helensburgh 3rd XI, to overcome Hillhead 7th XI 4-1.
