With the season beginning to take shape, another busy Saturday awaits across all three divisions. League positions are still far from settled, but several early-season fixtures could provide an indiciation of who is ready to mount a challenge at either end of the table.
Division 1

The standout fixture sees reigning champions Western 3rd XI welcome Uddingston 3rd XI to Auchenhowie for an 11:00 pushback. Western made a statement last weekend by ending Giffnock’s unbeaten start with a convincing 4-0 victory and will be looking to continue their climb up the table. Newly-promoted Uddingston have shown they belong at this level and will relish the opportunity to test themselves against the champions.
At Hermitage Academy, Helensburgh host joint league leaders Giffnock. Despite their defeat to Western, Giffnock remain at the top and will be keen to bounce back immediately. Helensburgh, meanwhile, will be hoping home advantage can help them secure a result against one of the early pace-setters.
There is plenty interest elsewhere too. Greenock host winless Hillhead 4th XI, with both sides eager to pick up valuable points. At Balgray, Hillhead 5th XI face Clydesdale 3rd XI, while Rottenrow take on Clydesdale 4th XI at the National Hockey Centre, in a meeting between two sides who have both shown flashes of quality during the opening weeks.
Division 2

A fascinating contest at Titwood sees league leaders Clydesdale 5th XI host Rottenrow 3rd XI. Clydesdale’s remarkable unbeaten run may finally have been halted by last month’s draw, but they remain one of the division’s most consistent sides. Rottenrow arrive in good spirits after a strong win over Ayr and will see this as an opportunity to make a statement.
Promotion hopefuls GHK and Dumfries meet in another intriguing clash. Both sides harbour ambitions of challenging near the top of the table and neither will want to lose ground at this early stage.
At Balgray, Hillhead 6th XI welcome Rottenrow 2nd XI, while Ayr host Western 4th XI looking to recover from a difficult opening to the campaign.
The final fixture sees recently relegated Kelburne 3rd XI take on Glasgow University 2nd XI at the On-X. Kelburne have already shown signs of adapting well to life in Division 2, while the students will be eager to start building momentum.
Division 3

The headline fixture comes at Hermitage Academy where Helensburgh 2nd XI host Anchor. Both sides will be looking to establish themselves in what promises to be another competitive Division 3 campaign.
Strathclyde University 2nd XI continue their season at Titwood against Clydesdale 6th XI, while Greenock 2nd XI and Giffnock 2nd XI meet in Inverclyde in a fixture that could have a significant impact on the early standings.
At Balgray, Hillhead 7th XI entertain Kelburne 4th XI, with both sides searching for valuable points. Kelburne enjoyed an excellent result last weekend and will be keen to build on that momentum.
With league leaders under pressure, several clubs still searching for their first victories, and a number of promotion contenders beginning to emerge, another entertaining Saturday of West District hockey awaits.
