A win for Clydesdale 5th XI will confirm them as division four champions, with three games to spare!

It’s Hillhead vs. Western this weekend in division one, as Hillhead 4th XI host Western 3rd XI and Hillhead 3rd XI host Western 4th XI. League positions suggest that both 3rd XI’s should win their respective games, with big score lines in favour of the 3rd XIs earlier in the season, but anything can happen. Western 3rd XI remain top of the division by a point and will need to ensure no slip ups between now and the end of the season. Hot on their tail is Clydesdale 3rd XI who host Helensburgh on Saturday. They have two wins over ‘burgh this season already, once in the league and once in the cup so another wouldn’t be out the question. Uddingston 3rd XI will be looking to use the home tie to their advantage as they take on Giffnock. Giffnock do have a healthy lead over Uddingston, who sit in a relegation spot, but a win here could help them see a way out of the drop. The other match sees Rottenrow host Kelburne 3rd XI.

Three of the top four are in action in division two tomorrow and with the league table very tight at the top, any mistakes now could be costly. Clydesdale 4th XI are currently top, but they have a tricky tie away to Dumfries to navigate. Dumfries are very strong at home and could put a spanner in the works for Clydesdale. Glasgow University 3rd XI host Ayr in what could also prove a difficult tie, with Ayr still having an outside chance of promotion as the season draws to a close. They will be hoping top scorer Aston Kerr will be on form against the students tomorrow. GHK currently hold fourth spot, but a win could put them in second if other results go their way. They take on relegation threatened Greenock 2nd XI at St. Columba’s pitches in Kilmacolm. The final match of the division could be a relegation six pointer; although Rottenrow 2nd XI do have a cushion from the bottom two of four points. They take on Uddingston 4th XI who occupy one of the relegation positions, and will need to be at their best to win away from home.

There are plenty of games still to play in division three before we can be sure of promotion or relegation but Kelburne 4th XI have a healthy lead at the top of the table. They sit four points clear, with three games in hand over second placed Anchor. Tomorrow, they head to Auchenhowie, to take on a Western 5th XI looking to confirm division three status for next season. Uddingston 5th XI are the team propping up the rest of the table and need to start getting results if they are to stay in division three. They travel through to Helensburgh 2nd XI, who themselves have had a topsy-turvy season, after relegation last year. The final match of the division has Strathclyde University 2nd XI host Hillhead 6th XI. The winner of this match will end the day in second position, with Anchor not playing.

Division four looks to be done and dusted already with Clydesdale 5th XI holding a massive twenty-point lead over second placed Giffnock 2nd XI. A win for Clydesdale against Hillhead 8th XI tomorrow will seal the deal and make the ‘dale side uncatchable. They have got top striker Finlay Dunlop to thank this season given his impressive seventeen goals across the competition. Giffnock 2nd XI have a double header weekend with Dumfries 3rd XI and Helensburgh 3rd XI coming to Eastwood on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Elsewhere, Hillhead 7th XI host Dumfries 2nd XI.
