West District League Hockey returned this weekend and it was back with a bang.

 

Division 1 saw league leaders Giffnock extend their lead with a 4 – 1 win over Hillhead 4th XI. Murray Bett got a double for Giffnock helping them to victory. Elsewhere, unbeaten Hillhead 3rd XI were finally stopped as an exciting game finished 5 – 4 to Clydesdale 3rd XI at Titwood. It was a very even game with the score 2 – 2 at half time, but Clydesdale just pipped Hillhead to the 3 points. Western 3rd XI continued their unbeaten run with a 7 – 1 win over GHK.

 

In division 2, Rottenrow 2nd XI had an impressive 6 – 1 victory over Helensburgh 2nd XI. A wonderful solo goal from Dara Brennan helped them see of the challenge of Helensburgh after an even first half ended 2-1. Uddingston 4th XI were defeated by Western 4th XI, 4 – 1, bringing their unbeaten run to a halt.

 

There was an exciting clash in division 3 as Anchor took on Strathclyde University 2nd XI. The two sides were playing in division 2 last season and took to the field against one another at ON-X Linwood. The game finished 6 – 3 to the Uni. side who remain at the top of division 3. Elsewhere, Kelburne 4th XI defeated Uddingston 5th XI with a 5 – 1 win.

 

The only unbeaten side in division 4 continued this trend with a 3 – 0 win. Western 5th XI were held to a 0 – 0 draw in the first half by Helensburgh 3rd XI, but the well drilled Western side came through in the second half, with three goals.
