It wasn’t quite the champagne finish expected, but we have new District Champions!

Congratulations to Western Hockey Club 3rd XI who win the district championship for the 11th time as a 3rd XI and the 24th time as a club.

They will pick up the famous John S. Dick trophy for the first time in 8 years after 5-0 walkover against Giffnock. Whilst no hockey was played, the title would have gone Westerns way anyway after Rottenrow overcame Hillhead 3rd XI to knock Hillheads chance at the title. That game finished 2-1 to Rottenrow. At the bottom of division one, there was much drama as a 1-1 draw between Uddingston 3rd XI and Helensburgh move Uddingston to safety. Helensburgh currently sit clear of relegation by goal difference alone, as GHK lost 7-1 to an impressive Clydesdale 3rd XI side. It’ll all come down to next weekend’s game at Helensburgh, between Helensburgh and Uddingston 3rd. A point will be enough to keep Helensburgh safe and relegate GHK. Dumfries lost to Hillhead 4th XI which confirmed their relegation.

In division two, the only spot still to play for is the second promotion spot. Western 4th XI have all but confirmed this, after defeating Ayr in an exciting game on Sunday, at Auchenhowie. The two sides met knowing the winner was likely to gain promotion, and it finished 7-4. Mathematically it is not Western’s yet, however, as they have two remaining games which could see their goal difference lose them the promotion spot. Both Clydesdale 4th XI and Rottenrow 2nd XI finished their seasons with Rottenrow winning 1-0, and Kelburne 3rd XI’s title winning side went out in style as they defeated already relegated Helensburgh 2nd XI.

Division three still has plenty to play for after the split. Hillhead 6th XI put a big stamp on the title, with an impressive 4-0 defeat of Greenock 2nd XI. The other game saw Kelburne 4th XI defeat Anchor 7-1 which see’s Kelburne keep second place, with promotion looking likely.
