The weather is set to be much warmer this weekend – highs of 12°C nonetheless. Let’s hope none of the hockey is frozen off!
It could be a weekend of upsets in division 1, as the top half of the table take on the bottom half of the table. Western 3rd XI were held to a draw last week but will be hoping to get back to winning ways this week against Helensburgh. Helensburgh have been struggling for form so far this season, so an upset looks unlikely. Last season’s champions, Uddingston 3rd XI are also a team struggling to recapture their best hockey. They travel to Glasgow to take on Hillhead 3rd XI in what could be a close game. High flying Giffnock take on GHK tomorrow, with an exciting game in prospect. The other ties see Hillhead 4th XI host Rottenrow and Dumfries travel to Clydesdale 3rd XI.
League leaders Kelburne 3rd XI play ‘away’ at Rottenrow 2nd XI in division 2. The two sides are in good form going into this game, each having won the last couple. It’s a tight league, with 8th placed Ayr on 9 points, and 1st placed Kelburne on 15, meaning a win can make a big difference to league position. Ayr, who may have hopes of promotion this season, welcome Western 4th XI to Ayrshire. A win could move them as high as 2nd place. Elsewhere, Clydesdale 4th XI host Uddingston 4th XI, and Glasgow University 3rd XI travel to Helensburgh 2nd XI. Hillhead 5th XI take on Stepps 2nd XI.
Anchor, who got their first points of the campaign last week, will be hoping for more of the same this week as they host Ayr 2nd XI, who are yet to win this season. Uddingston 5th XI come up against current division leaders Hillhead 6th XI. Greenock 2nd XI will be hoping the scoring prowess of Harry Weld-Forester helps them to victory against Strathclyde University 2nd XI. He currently sits top of the division scoring charts.
Division 4 see’s Clydesdale 5th XI host Helensburgh 3rd XI. Giffnock 2nd XI travel down to play against Dumfries 2nd XI and league leaders Western 5th XI play Hillhead 7th XI.
