West District Hockey finals day is this coming weekend, and we’d love to havbe you come and support!

The George Black Trophy and West District Plate will both be competed for this Saturday, 10th May at Upper Windyedge and our finalists are all but confirmed. The current holders of the George Black Trophy, Western 3rd XI will be hoping to retain the title as they made their way past Giffnock in the semi-final. Giffnock, who were the Plate winners last year made a good showing of themselves but came up short against a strong Western side, with Western winning 6-2. Westerns opponents will be Clydesdale A who overcame Rottenrow in the semi-finals. The 3-1 scoreline shows how close the game was and sets up an exciting final. The two sides have been jostling for top spot in the district all season and this final match could be a thriller. The game starts at 15:30 – so do come down and support.

The West District Plate will be the perfect appetizer for the GB Trophy. It’ll be on at Upper Windyedge too, on Saturday, with a 13:30 pushback. Hillhead B overcame Hillhead A in the first semi-final with a very competitive intra-club match going the way of the B side. The A’s had plenty of chances but couldn’t find the back of the net, unlike the B team, striking twice to take victory. The other team in the final will be Helensburgh, after an emphatic 7-0 victory over Greenock. The two sides fought tooth and nail, with Helensburgh having the better first half, but Greenock taking control in the second. However, the side in the higher division won the day.

The district would love to have your support so get along and cheer on all teams on Saturday, 10th May from 13:30.
