We had an action-packed weekend last weekend in the West District, with seventy-four goals scored across all four divisions!

In division one, Clydesdale 3rd XI stamped their authority on the league with a very impressive 6-1 victory over Hillhead 3rd XI. It is still early in the season, but this could be a big result come the end. Hillhead 4th XI had a strong outing against new boys Kelburne 3rd XI. Two goals from Charlie Hamilton and Chris Wilson helped them to a 6-2 over Kelburne. The other game in the league saw a close affair with Giffnock edging out Western 4th XI to all three points. A double from Andrew Barnett helped them win 4-3.

There was a flurry of goals in division two. Glasgow University 2nd XI’s first game couldn’t have gone much better as they overcame Hillhead 5A with an impressive 9-4 win. A hat-trick for Finlay Humberstone was the highlight of that game. Aston Kerr, of Ayr, also got a hat-trick, as his side fought hard to a 4-4 draw against GHK. GHK were ahead at half time but a spirited second half performance saw both teams share the points. Elsewhere, Clydesdale 4th XI took three valuable points home in a close encounter against Rottenrow 2nd XI, and Uddingston 4th XI and Greenock 2nd XI shared the points.

Thomas Halls goal wasn’t enough in division three, as Strathclyde University 2nd XI defeated Hillhead 6th XI at Balgray. The Uni. side look strong contenders for promotion and looked confident in this game. The other game in the division saw a goal-fest, with new boys Western 5th XI scoring three, but Kelburne 4th XI had the upper hand, winning 5-3.

Giffnock 2nd XI travelled down to Dumfries, in division four, and managed to take home all three points with an impressive 5-0 victory over Dumfries 3rd XI. Freddie Browns double for Dumfries 2nd XI saw them walk away from Balgray with maximum points, as they beat Hillhead 7th XI 4-2. And the final game of the day saw Clydesdale 5th XI win 3-0 against Hillhead 8th XI.

Clydesdale 3rd XI’s win over Hillhead moves them top of division one, whilst the two promoted sides from last season sit at the bottom. Clydesdale 4th XI also moved top of division two after their victory. With both Strathclyde University 2nd XI and Kelburne 4th XI winning, there is no change there, with Kelburne on the top division three. Clydesdale 5th XI remain top of division 4.
