The second half of the season is upon us. But let’s see where we’re at as we approach match 10.

Division 1 seems to be a league of two halves. A large gap has appeared between the top five and the bottom five. Leading the way are unbeaten Western 3rd XI, who have only dropped two points all season. Scoring 48 and conceding only 6, the twenty three times champions of the district look very confident at adding another title to the trophy cabinet. However, only two points separates them from fifth placed Giffnock. Last season’s division 2 champions have taken well to life in division 1, having only lost one game themselves. The other sides vying for the title, Hillhead 3rd XI, Rottenrow and Clydesdale 3rd XI are all within a point of top spot, so it’ll be an exciting run in for all.

In the bottom half, Hillhead 4th XI lead the pack, occupying 6th spot. Last season’s division 2 runners up have played some decent hockey this season and look to be comfortable in the league. Propping up the table at this point is Dumfries. The men from the south have found it difficult this season, struggling to find the back of the net. However, relegation is by no means on their minds at the moment, with only two points between them and seventh side Helensburgh.

In contrast to last season, Uddingston 3rd XI, district champions of 2022-23, have struggled this year and find themselves languishing in eighth place. A lack of firepower seems to be an issue for all the bottom sides, and Uddingston are no exception. However, it is only the halfway stage and the league tables are all sure to change come April!
