Another weekend goes by in the West District and we have new league leaders in division three.

It was a massive win for Western 3rd XI in division one this weekend. They demolished Glasgow University 3rd XI twenty goals to two. The students struggled to get enough players and perhaps were spooked a little from the previous evening’s antics. A scary result that goes in the record books as one of the biggest in West District history. An excellent result for Clydesdale 4th XI saw them draw with Rottenrow. The first point on the board for the promoted side allowed their Clydesdale counterparts to catch up with ‘row in the league table, after their 5-2 win over Hillhead 4th XI. The two sides sit second and third and are separated by goal difference only. Elsewhere, Giffnock had a comfortable victory over Hillhead 5th XI and Helensburgh won late on, with a Jamie Caulfield goal, to take all three points from Kelburne 3rd XI.

Unsurprisingly, Uddingstons 3rd XI overcame their 4th XI in the local derby. The win keeps the 3rd XI in touching distance of top spot, with a game in hand over Rottenrow 2nd XI. Rottenrow, themselves, had a convincing 6-1 win over Dumfries. A Tony Gillespie hat-trick helped secure all three points for Rottenrow. Western 4th XI got their first win of the season, moving them off the foot of the table. It was a tense game in Stepps, balanced on a knife edge at half time, at 1-1. The final score was a gripping 4-3 win for Western. Elsewhere, Greenock 2nd XI defeated Ayr in a close match at Inverclyde, and Hillhead 6th XI moved to third in the division, with a 5-2 win oner Kelburne 4th XI, who remain winless.

A close encounter at Uddingston Sports Club in division three saw Uddingston 5th XI defeat Clydesdale 6th XI 2-1. Goals from John Platt and Mark Strachan were enough to give Uddingston all three points and move them into pole position in the league table. The match at Hermitage Academy was a tasty affair with cards being shown. However, it was Hillhead 8th XI who came out victorious despite the efforts of Helensburgh 2nd XI. They won 5-3. Giffnock 2nd XI finally put a halt to Rottenrow 3rd XI’s unbeaten start as they won 2-0 at Eastwood High School.
