There was important wins at the top of the West District this week. Let’s have a look at the results.

The biggest result in division one, this weekend, was surely the 11-4 scoreline that took place between Western 3rd XI and GHK. Western sit in second in the division and are right in amongst the title race, whilst GHK are fighting off relegation. The bottom side definately gave Western a scare but it wasn’t enough as the clinical finishing of Western shone through. Another top vs. bottom game was Rottenrow against Helensburgh. Rottenrow were sitting top of the tree before the start of the day, whilst Helensburgh were in a relegation fight. The game was definately closer than the league positions suggested, however. A late penalty flick was the decider was Rottenrow won 3-2. It was 1-1 at half time in the top of the table clash between Hillhead 3rd XI and Clydesdale 3rd XI Both sides are in with an outside chance of the title and three points would be massive to either side in this game. It was Hillhead who took the initiative though, winning 3-2. The final game of the division was the only one to go against league position as Hillhead 4th XI defeated Giffnock 4-2.

In division two, first played third, as Kelburne 3rd XI welcome Ayr to the National Hockey Centre. The away side took the early lead, and led into half time 2-1, but they couldn’t hold that lead. The opposite scoreline in the second half saw the game finish 3-3. The draw is Kelburne’s first of the season but it does bring them a point closer to the title. The side in second couldn’t better Kelburne’s result as Western 4th XI were also held to a draw against Uddingston 4th XI. That game finished 1-1. Elsewhere, Rottenrow 2nd XI defeated Helensburgh 3-0 and Hillhead 5th XI won 4-0 against Clydesdale 4th XI.

It was a big result for struggling Strathclyde University 2nd XI on Saturday, as they defeated Uddingston 5th XI 9-0. The division three side had been struggling for form lately, but hat-tricks from Joel Gardiner and Alister Duncan set Strathclyde back on the right track. Greenock 2nd XI had an impressive 5-1 over Anchor, to move them to just two points behind league leaders Hillhead. The other game in division also finished 5-1 with Kelburne 4th XI defeating Ayr 2nd XI.

Only the two games in division four, as Giffnock 2nd XI overcame Hillhead 7th XI with a single Lewis Dallas goal. Clydesdale 5th XI moved back to the top of the division with an 8-0 victory over Dumfries 2nd XI.
