Another weekend of West District hockey brought goals, big scorelines and the first real indications of how the three divisions may develop over the coming months.
While some clubs maintained unbeaten starts, others picked up important first victories of the campaign, ensuring plenty of movement across the tables.

Division 1
Clydesdale 3rd XI remain the only side with a perfect record after four matches, securing a 3-1 victory away to Hillhead 5th XI. Their 100% start sees them sit at the top of the Division 1 standings and already looking like serious title contenders.
Champions Western 3rd XI continued their pursuit with an emphatic 6-1 win over Uddingston 3rd XI. After a surprise draw on the opening weekend, Western appear to be finding their rhythm once again, adding another six goals to an already impressive tally.
There was another statement victory for Greenock, who continued their excellent start to life back in the district leagues with a commanding 6-1 success against Hillhead 4th XI. Having already taken points from Western earlier in the season, Greenock are quickly establishing themselves as one of the division’s most dangerous sides.
At Hermitage Academy, Giffnock kept pace near the top with a 4-1 victory over Helensburgh. The home side took an early lead, but Giffnock’s quality in front of goal ultimately proved decisive.
The closest contest of the division came at the National Hockey Centre where Clydesdale 4th XI edged past Rottenrow 2-1. David Moir found the net for the hosts, but Clydesdale claimed all three points to continue their strong opening to the season.

Division 2
The title race in Division 2 remains wide open, with several sides already staking a claim for promotion.
For the second game this season, Clydesdale 5th XI were held to a draw, this time sharing the points with Rottenrow 3rd XI in a hard-fought 1-1 encounter. The result drops Clydesdale from top spot, whilst Rottenrow sit in mid-table.
One of the games of the day came at Old Anniesland, where GHK edged out Dumfries 4-3 in a thrilling seven-goal contest. The victory strengthens GHK’s early-season credentials and could prove significant come the end of the campaign.
Another entertaining draw saw Hillhead 6th XI and Rottenrow 2nd XI finish 3-3 at Balgray. Ollie Hamilton, Euan Smyth and Richard Wadsworth were all on the scoresheet for Hillhead in a match that swung back and forth throughout.
Relegated sides are beginning to find their feet at this level. Kelburne 3rd XI produced arguably their most convincing display of the season, defeating Glasgow University 2nd XI 4-0. Roddy MacCallum led the way with a brace, while Colin Fairbairn and Mark Connor added further goals.

Division 3
The biggest scorelines of the weekend came in Division 3, where several teams laid down markers in the early promotion race.
Kelburne 4th XI moved to the summit of the table with an impressive 6-1 victory away to Hillhead 7th XI. Having dropped from Division 2 last season, Kelburne are already showing signs that they intend to challenge for an immediate return.
Newly relegated Strathclyde University 2nd XI finally got their campaign underway and made an instant impact, dismantling Clydesdale 6th XI 6-1. It was an ideal start for the students, who will be hoping to bounce straight back to Division 2 at the first attempt.
At Hermitage Academy, Anchor continued their excellent start with a dominant 7-1 win over Helensburgh 2nd XI. Despite a goal from Mark Findlay for the hosts, Anchor’s attacking play proved too much to handle as they maintained their place among the early front-runners.
Meanwhile, Greenock 2nd XI collected their second victory of the season with a 3-0 success against Giffnock 2nd XI. Ross Slater struck twice, with Peter Robertson also finding the net to seal the points.
With early league tables beginning to take shape, next weekend’s fixtures already carry added significance as clubs look to build momentum before the season settles into its rhythm
