Happy New Year to all our West District Hockey fans – but more importantly, outdoor hockey returns in full swing this weekend!

The divisions haven’t moved much since November, but Kelburne 3rd XI did have an important win over Clydesdale 4th XI last week in a rearranged match. They will be keen to try and build some momentum this year, with a home tie vs. Rottenrow on Saturday. It was Western 3rd XI who were the form team in 2025. Can they continue that in 2026? They host Clydesdale 4th XI at Auchenhowie on Saturday. A close match is expected at Balgray, as Helensburgh travel to Hillhead 5th XI. The two sides are only three points apart. Elsewhere, Hillhead 4th XI welcome Glasgow University to Old Anniesland, and Giffnock head to Titwood to face Clydesdale 3rd XI.

Some matches restarted last week for Division two, with big wins for GHK and Dumfries. Rottenrow 2nd XI and Uddingston 4th XI played an up-and-down match in Glasgow, with the score finishing an impressive 4-4. Uddingston 4th XI and GHK meet this weekend, in Uddingston, as the two sides look for all three points. Top of the table Uddingston 3rd XI will travel down to Dumfries for a tough away fixture. A derby of sorts will take place between Strathclyde University 2nd XI and Rottenrow 2nd XI. Western 4th XI host Greenock 2nd XI, whilst Hillhead 6th XI travel down to Ayr.

Division three also restarted last week, with Helensburgh 2nd XI picking up three important points, and Clydesdale 5th XI overcoming rivals Clydesdale 6th XI. The league leaders, Clydesdale 5th XI, were unbeaten in all of 2025 and play on Sunday against Hillhead 7th XI. Uddingston 5th XI, Rottenrow 3rd XI and Hillhead 8th XI all sit joint second on eighteen points. They play Giffnock 2nd XI, Anchor and Dumfries 2nd XI respectively, with an eye on the important second spot. Elsewhere, Helensburgh 2nd XI host Clydesdale 6th XI at Hermitage Academy.
