With the 2024-25 season due to start this Saturday, we’re looking at each division and who’s competing in it!

Division four is the lowest division in the district but that does not make it any less competitive. This season, seven sides make up the division which have a real mix of future stars, and experienced heads to guide them. With development at the forefront of the teams, and some teams fielding primary school aged children, the division really does showcase the excellence of the district and its desire to promote youth hockey.

With seven teams competing in the league, each playing three games, it’s sure to be competitive. Last season’s division four champions, Clydesdale 5, opted to stay in the league, with their team ever changing. Several young stars will be joining that squad in the hope to push for the title again. Dumfries 2nd XI finished in 5th last year and will be hoping to improve on that this year with the addition of a 3rd Dumfries XI. Teams will be enjoying the trip down to Dumfries at least twice this year as the two sides will look to impact the division.

Giffnock 2nd XI have had ups and downs over the years but are an improving side with a 3rd place finish last year, and just missing out on promotion. They will be hoping to go the extra mile this season and push for the top spot. The ‘strongest’ team in the whole district, Helensburgh 3rd XI, held up the rest of the district last season, as they finished 6th in division four last season. A team full of youthful enthusiasm, they’ll be hoping to do more this year and avoid the dreaded bottom spot. Hillhead Hockey Club are flourishing at the moment, with the addition of two new XIs into the leagues this season. Hillhead 7s and 8s will compete in division four this year, with players already eyeing up when the two sides face each other in the all-important crunch match!

Plenty of exciting hockey will be on display in division four. Who do you think will win?
