The first round of the George Black Trophy is complete.

There were no major upsets in the first round of the George Black Trophy although Clydesdale A were pushed all the way to penalties by Hillhead B. The final 1 – 1 score meant a penalty stroke competition took place. Clydesdale were victories 3 goals to 2. Division 3 side Kelburne 4 also pushed division 1 side GHK to the final whistle, with the score finishing 3 – 2 to GHK. John Giblins double helped the Glasgow side to victory. Elsewhere, there were comprehensive victories for Western 3, Helensburgh and Hillhead A.

The quarter finals loom this month with four entertaining ties in store. Two all division 1 ties are the pick of the bunch with GHK hosting Hillhead A and Rottenrow travelling to Clydesdale A. The two division 2 sides left in the competition will be buoyed by the fact a division 2 side won the competition last season. Western 4 take on out of form Helensburgh, whilst current division 2 leaders Kelburne 3, take on current division 1 leaders Western 3.

In the West District Plate, Giffnock have a first round home tie against Hillhead D. The winner of that game will go on to play Clydesdale B in the quarter finals. The other ties see Ayr host Kelburne 4, Hillhead B take on Dumfries and Strathclyde University 2 host Hillhead C.
