Named in honour of the esteemed hockey goalkeeper George Black, the West District Cup gets underway this week.

Most teams will push back tonight. Hillhead C had a preliminary game against Ayr, which they won comfortably 5-0. Hillhead A also played their first round fixture against Dumfries and won 6-0. The rest of the games are due to push back tonight, or later this month.

There’s a number of tasty looking games. Rottenrow will welcome Clydesdale B to the National Hockey Centre, where they hope their division 1 form carries over into the cup. GHK, who have had a tough start in the league campaign, will be hoping to gain some winning mentality as they take on Kelburne 4th XI. Elsewhere, Strathclyde University 2nd XI welcome Helensburgh in what could be a tight game, despite the division difference.
